The Magick of the Color Red

Honoring my inner Love Witch for February

In witchcraft, the color red is often associated with love, passion and seduction not discluding its association with war and protection in folklore as well.

Ways we have seen the color red in folklore:

-In Ancient Rome, brides wore red shawls to symbolize love and fertility.

-Red is associated with the blood of war, such as in the Greek God Ares and the Roman God Mars.

-In Polish Folklore, red decorative elements were hung in house for protection.

and many other stories in history.

But for this moment, I would love to talk about ways to use red in modern witchcraft.

Love and Seduction: Red is often used in love spells and rituals to attract a new lover or bring passion to your sex life. Lighting red candles or sprinkling red rose petals on the bed are common examples of how this is used.

Witchtip: wear a sexy red outfit or under garments to bring that fire to the bedroom. Add red hot peppers to massage oil to heat the skin. Create a space/altar with deep reds in your bedroom to set an intention.

Protection: Red is naturally a protective color as it symbolizes strength and courage.

Witchtip: Add protection runes to your garments (or child’s garments/bookbag) with red thread. Place red candles strategically near front/back doors or windows that could be accessed. Tie red ribbons on the inside of your door handles.

Red is associated with the Fire Element and believed to be a powerful color for manifesting passion and will; also creating a certain fire or PASSION within you. If you are looking to AWAKEN YOUR POWER, start to bring subtle (or not so subtle) pieces of red around you. Your jewelry, clothing, home decor, phone background, undergarments. Start to watch as you bring the color back to your life without even realizing it.

If you work with crystals, here is a list of some red crystals and why they are good to use in your magick.

Carnelian: The Stone of Motivation. Known for its vibrant orange and red color, carnelian stimulates creativity, ambition, and determination. It’s a stone that encourages bold action and clear thought.

Garnet: The Gem of Commitment. With its deep red hue, Garnet is traditionally seen as a symbol of love, loyalty and dedication. Known for its ability to inspire creativity and bring vitality. Also believed to offer protection during travel.

Bloodstone: The Warrior Stone. With its distinctive appearance featuring dark green with flecks of red, bloodstone is believed to carry the essence of courage and perseverance. It is said to boost energy and revitalize the mind and body.

Rhodochosite: The Stone of Compassionate Heart. With its rosy red hue, this stone symbolizes selfless love, encouraging compassion for yourself and others. It helps with emotional healing, encouraging a positive outlook on life.
